Fenglehorn Habanero Sweet Chilli Sauce
Michael from Fenglehorn approached ChilliBOM and sent through some samples for us to try. I have to say that I was a bit on the sceptical side because they were sweet chilli sauces and didn't think they were going to be right for ChilliBOM. But I love being proved wrong and have to take my hat off to Fenglehorn's who've taken sweet chilli sauce to a whole new level!
Unlike a typical Thai Sweet Chilli Sauce, you can definitely smell the chilli and in this case, you get that distinctive habanero smell. The sauce has a red-tinged caramel colour and that sticky thickness that gets thicker after it has been refrigerated.
Although it is a sweet chilli sauce it is not sickeningly sweet as it is complemented well with ginger and fish sauce to give it an extra dimension in flavour. The thing that you can't miss with this sauce is the heat that hits the moment the sweetness disappears and lingers for a couple of minutes afterwards like good habanero should. If you dare and want that extra chilli kick may sure you chew on the chilli seeds that are spread throughout the sauce.
Like all Sweet Chilli Sauces this one is versatile and makes a great general dipping sauce or lathered all over a burger, steak or rice dishes. Mix it up with some sour cream or yoghurt and eat with chips.
