Kaitaia Fire Waha Wera Kiwifruit and Habanero Sauce
Anyone's first reaction to this hot sauce is usually a slightly confused and perplexed one. The combination of Kiwifruit and Habanero at first glance is a bit strange and I must admit the first time I went to taste this sauce I also was aĀ bit on the sceptical side and not sure what to expect.
This scepticism is completelyĀ unfounded, thisĀ hot sauce is notĀ what you could expect or imagine and completely over delivers both from a flavour and heat perspective. The kiwifruit gives this sauce a really fresh and unique fruity flavour as well as thatĀ strikingĀ green colour. The combination of fruit, sugar and Manuka Honey does mean thatĀ this sauceĀ isĀ a bit on the sweeter side but don't let that put you off asĀ the habanero heat helps to cut through that sweetness. Most people expect a green hot sauce to be on the milder side and while this sauce is not going to explode you face, the habanero does deliver enough heat to make this a medium-to-hot level sauce. All the chillies used by Kaitaia Fire are locally grown and barrel aged in the Kaitaia region in the far North of New Zealand's North Island.
This hot sauce just seems to work really well on anything deep fried but youĀ could also give it a go as a salad dressing or on your morning eggs.

I love this hot sauce. It is not too spicy but has a nice kick and I just love it over my eggs in the morning. I love spicy food and first tried this in Queenstown when I was there years ago. Thank god it is becoming easier to get in the UK as this is really one of my favourite sauces in the world. The combination of sweet with that lovely kick is a work of art.
