ChilliBOM Red Box Autumn 2020

The All-Rounder Edition In this edition we feature three hot sauces that can best described as great all-rounders – hot sauces made to be used anywhere and everywhere. We start with the amazing Secret Aardvark hot sauce from Portland where ChilliBOM is proud to now be the official Australian distributor of the brand. We then have the mouth-watering Basketcase Gourmet Firestarter from Melbourne made using seven different kinds of chilli and then there is the small batch rich-tomato Brisbane heat bomb that is Jose Montezuma. These are made to be used anywhere and everywhere so happy pouring!

[REVIEW] Basketcase Gourmet Firestarter Hot Sauce

If you just go off the ingredient list you would be mistaken in thinking that this is a simply made hot sauce but there in lies its beauty and the inherent cleverness in its creator Kate. Basketcase Gourmet Firestarter is blend of 7 different chillies so your whole mouth is hit at once with a moreish chilli heat.

[REVIEW] The Chilli Effect Wizard's Lingering Burn

The inclusion of this hot sauce in the Spring 2019 Red Box is a long time coming! We started talking about it in late 2016 and the issue was that the bottle is too big for the ChilliBOM Red Box was built to hold the regular 150ml hot sauce bottles. So we tossed around a few ideas and then it got too hard then just decided over a beer one day not to even put it in the box and send it separately outside the box...pretty smart hey...well it shouldn't have taken almost 3 years to work it out! What really matters was getting this sauce in the hands of the ChilliBOMers as it is a cracking hot sauce.

ChilliBOM Winter 2019 Red Box

The ‘Dimension’ edition Red Box features 3 hot sauces across the taste spectrum – savoury, smoky, sweet(ish) and all with a good dose of heat! We have an example of a sauce that uses a few simple ingredients to create layers of flavour to another that uses an abundance of ingredients to create a sauce with an intense depth of flavour and lastly a sauce that use a whole different “cooking” process to create dimension and complexity.

[Review] The Ferm Hot Sauce

The capsicum and chilli are definitely the heroes, each combining to give it a very earthy flavour, this then is finished off with a little hit of lime. The heat builds at the back of the throat and has a nice lingering burn thanks to the Ghost Pepper.

[REVIEW] Agent 80 Hot Sauce

Agent 80 Hot Sauce has been created by Jason, an ex-bartender who has blended chilli, lime and vinegar in a magnificent way, and managed to take a traditional hot sauce blend and deliver something completely different. We recently met in Perth were he described to me his vision for all natural products and ingredients and gave me a sneak peek of an upcoming new project he is working on...very tasty!
